Shal Lightbringer was, during his life, one of the most enlightened magi of the Kirin Tor, and Antonidas' trusted confidante. His magical machinations brought forth a vast array of spells which aided the Alliance through the Second War, alongside his relative, the now famed Uther.

It was because of his great power that Antonidas chose him to create the aura of life which they used to prevent the corrupted Arthas and Kel'Thuzad from entering Dalaran. Lightbringer, Antonidas, and Conjurus Rex maintained the aura, before they were, one by one, defeated by Arthas and his vile minions. Lightbringer managed to escape death, however, and after regrouping, he launched an attack on the hillside where Kel'Thuzad was casting a dark spell. Shal was eternally kept at bay by Arthas, and Kel'Thuzad succeeded in summoning Archimonde. Shal died in the following destruction of Dalaran.
