Arthas Menethil is one of the main fictional characters in the videogame Saga of Blizzard Warcraft and World of Warcraft. Arthas is the heir to the throne of Lordaeron and grew up during the time of the first wars of Azeroth against the Orcs. In his youth, he trained in the Stormwind Cathedral of Light under the tutelage of Uther the Lightbringer to become a champion.
A brief history
In the games, Arthas used to be an apprentice paladin and the prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand (Paladin is a leading character class found in role-playing games). As a teenager, It was Muradin Bronzebeard who trained Arthas in combat making him a skilled swordsman. Under the guidance of Uther the Lightbringer, he became part of the order of paladins of the Silver Hand at the age of 19.
Fighting the demon Mal Ganis
The ceremony took place in the Cathedral of Light in the city of Stormwind where he was given his characteristic sacred hammer known as Light’s Vengeance. It was not until his personal battle with the demon Mal’Ganis where the Prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand was forced by circumstances to kill innocents in the city of Stratholme. This fact blinded him with anger.
The end of it all
Swearing revenge, he decides to hunt this demon to the icy continent of Northrend where he finds the damn sword Frostmourne. This sword corrupts him completely until he becomes the reincarnation of the Lich King and owner of the Frozen Throne. Being the Lich King not only killed his father but also unleashed an army of the undead on the world, until he was defeated several years later, by a group of warriors led by Tirion Fordring.
